In this double page spread we see NME devote two page features on the indie rocker Pete Doherty. The casual look of the double page theme is especially styled to Pete Doherty’s style, the colours, skin and the drinks in his hand set the colour scheme. Orange, white and black seem to be the running colour pallet throughout this NME double page spread. NME’s colour scheme is based on red and white therefore it seems unordinary for them to break their conventional colours that people are used to seeing in NME this double page spread breaks the rules of NME. This shows that Pete Doherty is an A-list musician and very special to both NME and UK readers. The context of the magazine brought out in 2013 makes it look like NME have found his lost star and is now showing him again to the public world “we were surprised to hear” even NME are shocked that Pete is still exploiting himself in the music industry. Although the interview was based on Pete talking about his band BabyShambles, NME seem to focus more on Pete than the band he is trying to promote this shows me Pete is bigger than the band and that why NME’s purpose is to focus more on Pete so the targeted audience get more of Pete. Mostly indie and mods read NME therefore the majority of readers’ would have already likes or even loved Pete and his music. Therefore, people will start buying NME to see their favourite indie rocker back. The consumers’ will be buying this from supermarkets or gas stations because that is where magazines seem popular as independent music stores cannot afford to keep up with the mainstream sellers, as supermarket’s are normally closer to people’s homes therefore quicker to get to and cheaper to travel to.

The double page spread follows all conventions, in the sense that there is a colour scheme, folio, and drop capitals, three columns of writing, quotes and headings. The logo is a recurring theme on each page of NME followed by the page number so readers’ can follow along easily. The gutter is seen on the bottom and top of the page. The margins seem easily detected, is seems a basic casual double page spreads for such an exclusive interview, even Pete in the interview looks casual in a bar having a drink is this to show even though he was in a hugely popular band in early 2000’s that he is still close to his fans connecting with them on an informal way, gaining a relationship with the readers as well. You can also tell that this is not the first time NME have seen Pete otherwise they would of made a great deal, this shows to me Pete is a genuine nice guy not trying to exploit his fame just trying to promote his music in an un-showbiz like way. This is reinforced in the way Pete is staring directly into the camera lens, not trying to pose, just looking into the reader’s eyes. A whole page is dedicated to a picture of Pete; however a tiny image is shown of the band that the article should be on. The only time the band stands out is when a quote from another band member saying someone asked him “is Pete still your singer?” a small image of the band shows how insignificant they are to NME and how important Pete is to the UK music industry.

The heading “in good health” is ironic as it is over the image in which we see the alcoholic drinks in Pete’s hands, drinks that are bad for your health; therefore it is very dramatic irony.

There are many uses of starburst, which simply is there to make the reader want to either read further into the magazine or simply buy it. We see this trough the quote within the main image and the quote that is bigger than all the other text showing that that point in the article may be the most important piece.

This double page spread offers more than just text to the readers but offers appealing images and extras for the eyes, this helps the overall presentation and look of the double page spread, it is important to have images relating to the article. This helps establish the theme of the double page spread and the identity of the magazine and look of the band and the magazine.
